How to boost employee engagement at Christmas
With Christmas just around the corner, your staff are probably starting to wind down for the festive season.
So what can you do to keep your employees engaged?
There are loads of resources out there telling you to set challenging goals, create a festive atmosphere and promote communication – but what about your Christmas party?
Over a quarter of employees say that their favourite festive get-together is their annual work party – so you need to maximise this event to motivate your team. It’s a huge opportunity to reward your staff, celebrate your successes and spread some festive cheer.
Go hard or go home
There’s nothing worse than a lack-lustre party, so make a day of it – or even a week of it!
Start the festivities early with a Christmas jumper competition and encourage people to wear them all day long. Get a Christmas playlist going in the office with all the classic carols to get people in a festive mood! You can even plan a buffet, games hour or Christmas quiz – there are loads of activities you can do to boost engagement across your organisation.
We all know there’s work to be done in the run up to Christmas, but keep your expectations realistic. Your learners will have parties, Christmas shopping and family gatherings keeping them busy throughout the festive period. So forget about the big deadlines and just set small attainable targets.
Deck the halls
If you haven’t already decorated your office, it’s time to start hanging tinsel now! Encourage everyone to get involved by hosting a ‘best desk decorations’ competition. This will bring teams together as they appreciate each other’s hard work and crown one employee ‘Desk Decorations Designer of the Year 2016‘.
Mix it up
Forget about last year – this Christmas party will be best party yet! You don’t have to have a sit down dinner and drinks – what about bowling, paintballing or a cocktail masterclass? There are loads of fun activities available that will work wonders for your employee engagement.
Food, glorious food
When it comes to Christmas parties, food takes centre stage – so don’t skimp on the refreshments!
Ask your staff what they fancy for their Christmas dinner this year. From traditional turkey to Cuban cuisine – make sure your staff are involved in the decision. Mixed reviews? Organise a festive buffet in your office and get staff to bring in their homemade treats. Your team will love tucking in to turkey sandwiches, having a chat and comparing baked goods.
Remember, you don’t have to break the bank to throw a great Christmas party. Just spend some quality time with your staff and you’re sure to see a boost in employee engagement in the new year.
