New rules on adult skills training funding in England for 2024/2025 have been released by the Department for Education and Skills (DfE).
The updated guidance is in response to DfE consultation Skills for jobs: implementing a new further education funding and accountability system, which was published by the UK government in July 2023.
It sees the Education and Skills Funding Agency's Adult Education Budget (AEB) replaced by the ESFA-funded Adult Skills Fund (ASF) in a move to simplify adult skills funding by merging separate funding streams. A key aim of the new ASF is to support adult learners in non-devolved authority areas to gain skills which lead to meaningful, sustained and relevant jobs or which will help them progress their learning.
The ASF features further provision for tailored learning designed to support wider outcomes. These include improving health and wellbeing, developing essential skills such as English, ESOL, maths, and digital, equipping parents/carers to support their child's learning and forging stronger communities.
Managed by the Government's Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) the funding is available to eligible learners via approved training providers such as FE colleges, independent training companies and local authorities. The scope of learning programmes that qualify for ASF funding is wide, taking in everything from basic skills to higher level professional training.
