Access HE courses are intensive programmes.

Tutors have to cover an in-depth curriculum in a short amount of time, and students have to learn a lot, so centres need an easy, interactive and engaging way to deliver the course. Most access HE courses include some kind of blended learning – a mixture of online and face-to-face teaching.

Online learning is great for tutors and students – especially if you use an eportfolio. With an eportfolio, tutors can guide, monitor and assess their learners online, and students have the flexibility to learn in way that suits them. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Set assignments

With an eportfolio, access HE centres can create templates, plans and reports to standardise assignments. Tutors can then send assignments to students to complete online.

Collect evidence

Students can create a portfolio of work for their course. Depending on the criteria, they can upload photos, videos and audio recordings as evidence or upload written assignments.

Send feedback

Using an eportfolio is a great way to keep in contact with students. Tutors can log in to view their students’ work and send messages or offer feedback online. It’s quick, convenient and transparent.

Track progress

Monitoring students out of the classroom can be a challenge – but not with an eportfolio. Tutors can use online reports, dashboards and alerts to see exactly how their students are getting on.

Generate reports

Most eportfolios have a built-in reporting suite. Tutors can use live data to report on student engagement, progress and grades – while centres can use reports to analyse overall performance. It’s all the seeing the small details and the big picture.

Prepare for audit

With an eportfolio, the entire audit trail is recorded online, so there’s no scrambling for paperwork when it comes to inspection time.

Learn offline

Some eportfolios have an offline app, so students can complete work even when they don’t have an internet connection. They can collect evidence and access assignments offline, and then sync their progress when they’re connected to the internet again.

Using an eportfolio is an easy, interactive and engaging way to deliver access HE courses. Students can learn in a style and place that suits them, and tutors can support students online. Centres even save money on printing, paper, storage and travel costs as everything is managed online.

Eportfolios are a great option for access HE centres – but not all eportfolios were created the same. At OneFile, our eportfolio can do all the things mentioned above, plus it has tons of additional features to make delivery even better – like a course builder, learning journal, evaluation scorecard and offline app.

OneFile can be completely customised to suit your centre, and can be used for any type of course – from midwifery to art and design.
