Celebrating T levels week: How Onefile can support T level delivery

Written by Admin | Oct 16, 2025 12:57:23 PM

October 13th to 17th is T levels Week – a chance to celebrate the hard work of T level students, their teachers, training providers and, of course, employers, who offer learners real world work experience.

Unbelievably, it’s now more than five years since these technical qualifications were first introduced by the previous government, and in that time, T level take up has continued to grow strongly.

Some 91.4% of the 11,909 learners receiving T level results in August 2025 passed their course, and of those 65.3% received a merit or above.

This is a great achievement and something we at Onefile continue to support with exciting, innovative and cost-effective edtech that helps T level students balance their technical learning with academic study.

New T level subjects

Offering an alternative to A-levels, apprenticeships and other vocational programmes such as BTEC, T levels were created in partnership with leading employers to address business's skills requirements.

And, they’ve since been fully embraced by the new UK government, who have opened them up as part of broader plans to deliver the skills that businesses, organisations and young people need.

T levels were initially launched in 15 industry sectors where employees need a lot of technical training before they can start work, such as in engineering and construction. Since then, they’ve been rolled out in other sectors such as digital and health & science and more recently agricultural, land management & production and legal. The newest T level, launched in September, is in marketing and brings the number of T levels now on offer to 21.

Combining academic study with practical learning

Broadly equivalent to three A levels, T levels, like A levels can offer a route into higher education, skilled work or higher-level apprenticeship.

But what truly makes them different from other post-16 programmes is the 45-day industry placement that runs alongside classroom-based learning. According to government statistics, around a third of T levels students who go into employment after, secure work with their industry placement employer.

In accordance with government plans to make the programme more flexible, learners are now able to complete around 20% of their work placement at home, with that number rising to 50% for those doing the digital T level. This change was brought in to reflect industry trends and real-life hybrid working practices.

How Onefile can help

As the leading learner management platform, we understand the pressures faced by learners, their tutors and employers when combining academic study with practical, hands-on work experience.

Taking a T level calls for real commitment and dedication for everyone concerned, so Onefile’s applications can really lighten the load.

Learners can, for example, use Onefile to create an Eportfolio with documents, images, videos, and audio displaying their skills and evidence of learning.

Our edtech also brings huge benefits for employers and training providers – such as managing learner progress, tracking learner activities, and assessing them remotely
