ILPs just got easier with Onefile and CENTURY integration

So, what if we told you that creating an ILP (Individual Learning Plan) from a learner’s initial assessment just got a whole lot easier thanks to a new integration with Onefile?

We know initial assessments are a really important first step in a learning cycle centred around the learner. They help the training provider get a good understanding of where a learner is in terms of ability and prior learning before the learning programme begins. At the same time, for programmes such as apprenticeships, the initial assessment plays an important role in meeting funding rules.

Well, a neat integration between Onefile and CENTURY has made this whole process easier to manage. CENTURY is the provider of an online teaching and learning tool that combines artificial intelligence with the latest research in learning science and neuroscience. It has become a popular tool with many training providers and learners currently using Onefile, so it made perfect sense to integrate the two.

Onefile’s integration with CENTURY works using an API key, that enables you to view your learner’s initial assessment results directly within their portfolio and include these results in your ILP (Individual Learning Plan).

You’re probably familiar with the use of APIs (application programme interfaces) and API keys, but for the uninitiated, an API key is a unique, secret string of characters that acts as a password for software to authenticate itself when accessing an API. An API is essentially a set of rules that makes it possible for applications to communicate with each other and exchange data. CENTURY calls its interface Connect API.

CENTURY says: ‘Connect API is an easy-to-use API tool for external teams that allows MISs, Eportfolios or your internal systems to seamlessly pull data from CENTURY. It facilitates immediate onboarding and assessment of new starters and saves hours of administration time as well as allowing easier access to analysis and data insights.’

Interested in taking advantage of this new integration? It’s technical stuff but don’t worry, our team are on hand to walk you through the process. With simple email verification, the training provider can control access to the learner’s data and add assessment results from CENTURY to the ILP. In this step-by-step guide, we will explain how.

To activate the CENTURY integration:

  1. Contact Onefile Support or your account manager to talk about enabling the integration for your organisation
  2. Once enabled, go to the Onefile Integration Hub where you can begin to use the integration
  3. Configure the following setting: API Key – A case-sensitive alphanumeric string provided by CENTURY
 How the Integration Works
  • Onefile automatically matches learners in both systems using their verified email address
  • Once a learner’s email is verified in Eportfolio, Onefile will match them with CENTURY and display their assessment results
  • Matched results appear on the CENTURY page within the learner’s portfolio

Controlling Access to Century Data

Centre Managers can manage who is able to view CENTURY assessment results. Use the permission ‘Can view CENTURYTech results’, which can be set at both individual user and user group levels. This applies to the following user groups:

  • Learners
  • Assessor
  • Centre Manager
  • Centre Monitor
  • Employer
  • External Verifier
  • Internal Verifier
  • Lead Internal Verifier
  • Observer
  • Trainee Assessor
  • User Manager

Viewing Century Assessment Results

  • Access a learner’s CENTURY results by clicking the CENTURY tile on their Portfolio page
  • In Simple View, the tile is located on the Activity tab
  • The tile is only visible if:
  • The user has the CENTURY permission
  • The learner has a verified primary email address
  • The CENTURY integration is enabled in the Integration Hub

Adding CENTURY Results to the ILP

Finally, CENTURY assessment results can then be added to the ILP as a new field, allowing you to incorporate assessment insights into the learner’s plan.

In summary

The initial assessment is the foundation of a successful ILP, enabling the training provider to tailor a programme to meet the specific needs of the individual. Now, with this useful integration between Onefile and CENTURY, a training provider can incorporate insights from the CENTURY into Onefile to create a successful ILP.
